Airports in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is a country located in the southeast part of Europe. Hence, it has many direct flights from Europe, Asia and Africa. There are four airports in Bulgaria:

Sofia Airport

Sofia Airport is the biggest airport in Bulgaria. It is located in the suburbs of the capital of Bulgaria and has two terminals (T1 and T2). Terminal 1 is the older one and is rather used by low-cost airlines. Airlines that have a direct connection with Sofia Airport Terminal 2 include Lufthansa, Turkish Airways, British Airways, Bulgaria Air, Ryanair, etc. There is a free shuttle bus between both terminals and terminal 2 even has a metro station (called Sofia Airport) - this way you can go directly to the city centre. 

Plovdiv Airport

Plovdiv Airport is located outside the city of Plovdiv (5 - 10 km). There is no public transportation from Plovdiv Airport to the city centre of Plovdiv, but you can catch a taxi (it should cost max 15 BGN). Ryanair is one of the airlines that has direct flights to Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Plovdiv itself is located in the middle of Bulgaria so its location is very good if you wish to travel around.

Varna Airport

The city of Varna attracts many tourists - it is located at the Black Sea coast and its city centre and "sea garden" (a park located next to the sea) are lovely! Varna Airport is located outside Varna (around 15 km away from the city centre). A taxi ride from Varna Airport to the city centre costs around 10 leva. You can also catch the bus to reach the city. 

Burgas Airport

Burgas is one of the biggest cities in Bulgaria - famous for its great location (again at the seaside, just like Varna) and the nice weather, the city attracts many tourists in summer. There is a direct bus from Burgas Airport to the central bus station in Burgas (bus line 15). Of course, you can also catch a taxi to reach Burgas.
