All applicants must pass through several steps to get a university spot in Bulgaria. Usually, students need to prepare a set of application documents and submit it to the university as well as prepare for an entrance test. Yes, you can. We advise you to apply as early as possible so that you start to collect and prepare most of the application documents. Some of them need to be translated and legalized. Later you will have more time to focus on the remaining papers. Of course, to enrol at the university, you must submit the full set of application documents.

Commonly, entry requirements of Bulgarian universities include an entrance test. Usually, it takes place online. Often, successful university admission depends on your exam grades. Usually, the academic year starts in September / October. It is divided into two semesters. The winter semester is from September/October till February. The summer semester starts around February and ends around June with final exam sessions. Of course, there are some exceptions – e.g. the academic year at Pleven Medical University starts in February.

Each Bulgarian university has a different application deadline. Also, the dates may vary depending on whether you are an EU or a non-EU citizen. We strongly recommend applying as soon as possible so that you have time to collect all application documents as well as prepare for the entrance exam if there is one. Depending on your educational background, it may be possible for you to transfer to a Bulgarian university and get your subjects recognized so that you do not start from first year. Make sure to read our article about transfer students in Bulgaria.

The duration of the course depends on the study program of your choice. For instance:
- Medicine in English (Master’s degree) - 6 years (12 semesters)
- Dentistry in English (Master’s degree) - 5.5 years (11 semesters)
- Veterinary Medicine in English (Master’s degree) - 5.5 years (11 semesters)
- Pharmacy in English (Master’s degree) - 5 years (10 semesters)

The annual tuition fees range from 3000 to 8000 EUR, depending on the study program and the university of your choice. For instance:
- Medicine in English (Master’s degree) – 7000 to 8000 EUR
- Dentistry in English (Master’s degree) - 8000 EUR
- Veterinary Medicine in English (Master’s degree) – 4500 to 5100 EUR
- Pharmacy in English (Master’s degree) – 5000 to 6000 EUR

Living costs in Bulgaria are lower compared to most European countries. Monthly expenses, including rent, bills and food depend on the city you live in. On average, students spend between 400 and 800 EUR per month. Sofia is the most expensive city in Bulgaria.

It is possible to get a refund for our services. The refund policy is included in the agreement you sign with Inter HECS – Study in Bulgaria, so you will be able to read and agree to it before you officially start the application. A refund is not possible if a student withdraws their application.

If your home country is part of the European Union, you do not need a VISA to study in Bulgaria. Some countries have special bi-lateral agreements with Bulgaria, but most non-EU candidates are required to apply for a student VISA type D. All foreign students are obliged to apply for a residence permit after moving to Bulgaria.

If you choose a study program in English in Bulgaria, all your courses will be taught in English. The only exception is the basic Bulgarian language course included in the curriculum of most Bulgarian universities. Some Bulgarian universities offer scholarships and students can apply based on their academic performance. Keep in mind that scholarships do not cover tuition fees. This is why many foreign students look for an opportunity to apply for a student loan.
